CONFIGS - Configuration Management System

CSE784 - Software Studio, Fall 2001

Instructor: Jim Fawcett

CONFIGS is a configuration management system designed to support role-based management of software products and to provide a rich basis for association between these products. With each product we directly associate a responsible individual, product description, status reporting, and maintenance history. An important new capability is also added - that of user defined associations. Each product can be associated with its documentation and other related products. We can, for example, expose the association between a program and its modules, or between a system and its programs.

The system supports multiple concurrent clients, using a sockets-based message-passing communication system to conduct operations with a server and multiple remote clients.

CONFIGS also provides software tools to analyze source code products for conformance with software standards and measures differences between software versions in terms of function sizes, cyclomatic complexity, file size, dates, and attributes.

Development of this prototype tool was defined, specified, designed, implemented, integrated, and qualified in a period of six weeks by seven teams, a program manager, and software architect.

Development Teams

Virtually all requirements in the customer's A-level specification and the developer's B-level specifications were met, and only three minor issues and one significant issue were recorded during a seven hour qualification test. The user interface is very effective and system performance with server and remote clients is excellent.
